Suddenly I'm staring at that little camera screen wondering whether anyone actually cares what I'm doing today.

Do I share something useful?

Talk about an offer?

Post a screenshot?

Show my coffee?

Tell people what I'm working on?

And why does something that disappears after 24 hours somehow feel harder than creating an entire Reel?

If you've ever opened Instagram Stories, stared at the blank screen and closed the app again, you'll know exactly what I mean.

The Blank Story Screen Is a Very Specific Kind of Annoying

It's not necessarily that you have nothing to talk about.

You've probably spent half your morning thinking about your business.

You've answered questions, worked on content, looked at your offers and had approximately seventeen thoughts that could have turned into something interesting.

But none of those thoughts seem particularly useful when you're suddenly expected to turn them into a Story.

So you start looking for inspiration.

You watch what other people are posting.

Someone's sharing a morning routine.

Someone's talking about a sale.

Someone else has created a beautiful five-slide sequence that somehow connects her breakfast to a $200 product.

And now you're even more confused. 😂

Because copying somebody else's Story doesn't solve your problem.

You still don't know what YOU should be talking about.

I Don't Want to Post Just Because I Haven't Posted Today

This is where I think a lot of Story advice misses the point.

It tells you to show up consistently.

Share behind the scenes.

Be relatable.

Talk about your offers.

Build trust.

All perfectly reasonable suggestions.

But they don't help much when you're sitting there thinking, "Okay, but what do I actually SAY?"

I don't want to post a random quote just to keep the little coloured ring around my profile picture.

And I don't want to share another coffee photo because I can't think of anything else.

There's nothing wrong with coffee Stories, by the way.

I just want my Stories to occasionally do something more useful than confirm that I am, once again, drinking coffee. 😂

The Problem Isn't Always a Lack of Ideas

I think this is the bit underneath the blank screen.

Sometimes we don't need more content ideas.

We need help recognising which parts of our normal day, business and conversations are actually worth sharing.

Maybe somebody asked a question about an offer.

Maybe you noticed something your audience keeps getting wrong.

Maybe you had a small win.

Maybe you tried something that didn't work.

Maybe you realised why a particular problem keeps showing up.

Those are all potential starting points.

But when you're staring at the Story screen, it can be difficult to see how any of them become content.

Especially when you want the Story to connect to your business without turning every little update into a sales pitch.

That's a different problem from simply needing a list of prompts.

And Generic Story Prompts Only Get Me So Far

We've all seen those lists.

"Share three things you're grateful for."

"Tell your audience a fun fact."

"Ask an engaging question."

"Share your favourite motivational quote."

Lovely.

But I'm trying to build a digital marketing business.

I have specific offers.

My audience has specific problems.

And I'd quite like the content I'm creating to connect those things together.

I don't necessarily want another 100 prompts that could work for a fitness coach, a candle business, a travel blogger or literally anybody else.

I want ideas that make sense for what I'M doing.

Because a Story idea is only useful if I can actually turn it into something my audience wants to watch.

That's Where The Story Plug Comes In

The Story Plug is a Story creation resource with prompts and a custom GPT designed to help you come up with Instagram Story content around your audience, offers and everyday life.

Rather than starting with a completely blank screen, you can use it to develop Story angles and sequences that fit what you're trying to communicate.

It can help with things like:

Finding Story ideas connected to your business

Turning everyday moments into relevant content

Creating connected Story sequences

Finding ways to talk about your offers

Getting ideas when you've been quiet on Stories

And it supports both faceless and face-forward creators.

That last part matters to me because I don't want every Story suggestion to begin with "jump on camera and talk to your audience."

Absolutely not every day, thank you. 😂

I want options that work for the way I actually create content.

One Useful Story Idea Is Better Than Ten Random Ones

Imagine you've been talking about a product that helps people create better Instagram carousels.

You could post a Story saying:

"Here's the product. Here's the link."

Nothing wrong with sharing an offer.

But maybe your audience isn't thinking about buying a carousel resource right now.

Maybe she's thinking:

"I spent an hour making that carousel and barely anyone swiped."

That's a much more interesting place to start.

You could talk about that specific frustration, explain one thing people often overlook and then connect it to the resource you're recommending.

Now the Story has a reason to exist.

It's not just filling space.

It's helping someone recognise a problem and understand what might help.

That's the kind of Story idea I want more of.

Not another prompt telling me to ask my followers whether they're a morning person.

I Want My Stories to Sound Like Me

This is another reason I'm picky about content tools.

I don't want to open a Story generator and get five slides that sound like I've suddenly become a motivational speaker.

"Are you ready to unlock your potential?"

No, babe. I'm trying to explain why your content isn't converting. 😂

I want Story ideas that I can turn into normal conversations.

The way I'd actually talk.

With the examples, opinions and little observations that make my business feel like mine.

A tool can give me a starting point, an angle or a structure.

I still need to make sure the words sound like something I'd genuinely say.

That's the difference between using AI to support your content and letting it completely replace your personality.

And Sometimes I Just Need Help Getting Started

Not every Story needs to be a carefully planned sales sequence.

Sometimes I genuinely just need something to get me posting again.

Especially if I've been busy, disappeared for a few days or spent too long overthinking what to share.

Because the longer I leave it, the bigger the task starts to feel.

I tell myself I'll post tomorrow when I've got something better.

Then tomorrow arrives.

I still don't have an idea.

And suddenly it's been a week since I've posted anything.

The Story Plug includes prompts for those quieter periods too, which I think is useful.

Sometimes the hardest part isn't creating five slides.

It's creating the first one.

Who I Think The Story Plug Makes Sense For

I wouldn't recommend The Story Plug to somebody who already loves creating Stories and has a system that works for them.

If you're opening Instagram every day with plenty to say, you probably don't need another resource to help you think of things.

But if you're regularly experiencing the blank-screen problem, it's worth looking at.

Especially if you recognise yourself in these:

"I know I should be using Stories, but I never know what to post."

"I have loads of content ideas for Reels, but absolutely nothing for Stories."

"I want to talk about my offers without every Story feeling like an advert."

"I save other people's Story ideas but can't work out how to make them relevant to my business."

"I haven't posted on Stories for days because I can't think of anything worth sharing."

Those are all slightly different versions of the same problem.

You don't necessarily need more information about why Stories matter.

You need help turning what you already know, do and sell into something worth posting.

But A Story Idea Isn't Automatically a Sales Strategy

I think this distinction matters.

The Story Plug can help with ideas, angles and sequences.

But it doesn't mean every Story you create will suddenly lead to a sale.

You still need to understand your audience.

Know what your offers actually solve.

Be clear about why somebody might want them.

And give people a sensible next step when it's relevant.

If your main problem is understanding buyer psychology and why people make purchasing decisions, that's a different skill to work on.

But if you already know what you're trying to communicate and keep getting stuck turning it into Stories, that's where The Story Plug fits.

It's helping with the content creation part of the process.

I Don't Want Instagram Stories to Feel Like Homework

This is probably the biggest thing for me.

I don't want to open Instagram and immediately feel behind because I haven't posted six perfectly planned Story slides before breakfast.

I don't want to spend 40 minutes looking for inspiration.

And I definitely don't want to convince myself I have nothing interesting to say when I've spent the entire day working on things my audience might genuinely find useful.

I want to be able to take a thought, a question, a little moment or a problem somebody is having and turn it into a Story without making it a whole production.

Some days that might be one slide.

Other days it might be a connected sequence that leads into an offer.

Both are fine.

The point is to stop making the blank screen the hardest part of the process.

Because I already have a business to run.

I'd quite like posting an Instagram Story to stop feeling like a separate bloody qualification I need to earn. 😂

If you keep opening Stories, staring at the screen and closing Instagram again, The Story Plug might be the starting point you're missing.
